Money first winner for freshman sire Lil’s
Lad
Two-year-old First Money maintained a clear lead
at every call to win in his first career start,
taking a maiden special weight race for two-year-olds
at Churchill Downs to earn the first win for freshman
sire Lil’s Lad.
Grade 2 winner Lil’s Lad stands for $10,000
at Lane’s End near Versailles, Kentucky.
He is the sire of five starters from 64 foals
of racing age. He also is the sire of 39 yearlings.
An
eight-year-old son of Pine Bluff, Lil’s
Lad won five of 13 career starts while racing
from 1997 to '99. He won the Fountain of Youth
Stakes (G2) in 1998 before placing second to Cape
Town in the Florida Derby (G1), a race in which
he finished first but was placed second for interference.
Lil’s Lad also finished second in the Blue
Grass Stakes (G1) that year, a race won by Halory
Hunter. As a juvenile, he finished second to Grand
Slam in the Champagne Stakes (G1).
Bred
in Kentucky by Shortleaf Stable, Lil’s Lad
earned $589,930 while racing for Lillian Durst,
William Farish, and Centennial Farm.
First
Money broke first and set the pace of :22.63 for
the quarter-mile and :45.99 for the half-mile
then drew off to register a four-length win, completing
the five-furlong race in :58.27 over a fast track.

Money is one of three starters, all winners, out
of the winning Phone Trick mare Tricki Mae and
is a half brother to stakes winner Lakeside Cup.
